First Responder Issues -- Roland Sprewell

Roland Sprewell is a shift commander of a hazardous materials response unit for Los Angeles County Fire Department -- one of the largest county fire departments in the nation. He is a 24-year veteran of the firefighting profession, holding positions from firefighter/paramedic, fire inspector, apparatus operator, CERT Instructor and public information officer. In 1998, concurrent with his firefighting profession, he worked as a weekend broadcast journalist for an NBC affiliate in Palm Springs, and has written articles and editorials on issues related to public safety for several local newspapers. In 2005, he worked as a department liaison to a multi-agency, UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) regional training unit, helping to develop homeland security training curriculum and participate in full scale exercise development. He is currently completing his undergraduate degree and plans to pursue a masters in Homeland Defense/Security Studies.
